A crust of spaghetti noodles is topped with ricotta cheese, ground beef, marinara, and cheese in this easy Spaghetti Pie recipe. A fun twist on a classic that the entire family will love!

Spaghetti pie is a bit of a cross between baked spaghetti and lasagna. Buttery spaghetti noodles are pressed into a pie pan to form the crust, then topped with a layer of seasoned ricotta cheese and marinara meat sauce. And cheese! There’s lots of cheese, of course! Once baked, it’s cut into slices and served. It’s such a fun reinvention of a classic, and the entire family loves it!
Why This Spaghetti Pie Is A Family Favorite
My entire family rejoices when they see this on the menu! Here are a few reasons why.
- Fun twist on a classic. I’ve discovered that if my family is getting bored with a dish, all I need to do is change the presentation, and they love it again. Spaghetti pie is simply classic spaghetti in a pie shape, with ricotta cheese added, but there’s something about the novelty of spaghetti as a pie that kids seem to love!
- Easy to make! This is definitely a preference of the cook, but I love that this spaghetti pie is so quick and easy to prepare. I can cook the spaghetti noodles and ground beef at the same time, then layer everything and pop it in the oven. It takes just 20 minutes or so of hands-on time.
- Leftovers are great. My family frequently fights over the leftovers of this dish. They store well for several days, though they never last that long in my house, and taste just as good (if not better). It also makes a great make ahead freezer meal!
Recipe Ingredients
The ingredients used in this recipe are a cross between classic spaghetti ingredients and lasagna ingredients. Scroll down to the recipe card below for the exact measurements.
- Spaghetti noodles – Angel hair and fettuccine pasta will work as well. Just stick to a long pasta!
- Butter – Salted or unsalted butter both work.
- Egg – Mixed with the spaghetti to help form the “crust”.
- Parmesan cheese – Freshly grated is ideal, if you have it!
- Ricotta cheese – Ricotta is used for the first layer of this “pie”, similar to lasagna. Cottage cheese can also be used if preferred.
- Italian seasoning – Adds flavor to the filling.
- Ground beef – I like to use lean ground beef to cut down on excess grease. Ground chicken or turkey work as well.
- Marinara sauce – I love to use my homemade marinara sauce, but a jar from the store works too.
- Shredded mozzarella cheese
- Fresh parsley – For garnish. Basil is great too!
How To Make Spaghetti Pie
This savory pie is super easy to make! The printable version of the instructions is in the recipe card below.
- Prep. Preheat the oven to 350F. Lightly grease the pie dish.
- Cook the spaghetti. Cook the spaghetti according to package directions then drain and rinse with cold water.
- Make the pie crust. Toss the spaghetti with melted butter. Stir in the beaten egg and Parmesan. Press the mixture into the pie dish to form the crust.
- Add the ricotta. Combine the ricotta cheese and Italian seasoning. Spread evenly over the spaghetti crust.
- Add the beef. Brown the ground beef over medium-high heat. Drain any grease. Stir in the marinara and simmer for 5-10 minutes. Spread the mixture over the ricotta layer. Top with the shredded mozzarella cheese.
- Bake. Bake the spaghetti pie for 20-25 minutes. The cheese should be melted and bubbling, and the edges golden.
- Enjoy. Let cool for at least 5 minutes before slicing. Garnish with chopped parsley or basil. Enjoy!
Tips & Variations
This spaghetti pie is pretty straightforward but there are still a few things to keep in mind. I’ve also included some easy variations.
- Add more veggies. Add a layer of sautéed spinach, diced mushrooms, or cooked bell peppers for extra flavor and vegetables. Black olives or sliced pepperoni can also be added for variety.
- Make it vegetarian. For a vegetarian spaghetti pie, swap the ground beef for a plant-base ground meat. It could also be replaced by sauteed veggies like those mentioned above.
- Try a different cheese or meat. Swap mozzarella with asiago, provolone, or a blend of Italian cheeses for a different flavor. Instead of ground beef, try Italian sausage or ground turkey.
- Use long pasta. Spaghetti, angel hair, and fettuccine all work great in this recipe. However, short noodles like rotini or macaroni won’t work. The crust would likely fall apart.
- Cool before slicing. I recommend letting the spaghetti pie cool for 5-10 minutes before slicing and serving. This gives the filling a chance to solidify a bit and makes it easier to serve.
How To Store & Reheat Leftovers
- Fridge. Store leftover spaghetti pie in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.
- Reheat. Reheat slices in the microwave for 1-2 minutes or in the oven at 350°F for about 10 minutes until warmed through
- Freezer. For longer storage, freeze the pie before baking. Wrap it well, then thaw in the fridge overnight before baking as directed.

Just like regular spaghetti, I like to serve this baked spaghetti pie with breadsticks or cheesy garlic bread. A side salad is also a great addition!

Thanks Patricia!
This looks so good! I will rate it after I make it but I am sure it will be 5☆. I will be adding a few things to the marinara , I always make my own. I add fresh sliced mushrooms, green and red or orange bell peppers, and a little celery…Mmmm…can’t wait to make this ‘pie’. Thanks for sharing this recipe with us !!

Hi Mary. I’m not sure what has changed in the recipe card as far as copying the link. We do have most of our videos on our YouTube channel. Thanks!
